How Coronavirus Affected Travel and Tourism Sector

This epidemic disease is directly related to the Travel and Tourism Sector all over the world i.e Coronavirus. Travel & Tourism Sector is trillions of dollar industry worldwide. Which is now affecting by this deadly virus. Novel Coronavirus known as 2019-nCoV. After SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) in 2003 affected almost 26 countries and more than 8,000 cases in 2003, now this virus also starts from Wuhan in Hubei province in China and spreading all over the world. Till now it touches up to 22 countries (approx) and still counting.

There is a very big impact on the travel & tourism sector due to this Coronavirus. Many countries issued advisory and imposed restrictions on their citizens not to go travel trips. Nowadays peoples canceled their flight or reduced the number of rounds. Many countries are doing the evacuation process for their citizens from infected places. Hong Kong and Taiwan closed its cross border water route. Russia closed its land border connected to China.

World Health Organization declared worldwide it as a Public Health Emergency. And President and CEO of World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), Gloria Guevara express her views about a negative impact on all types of the economy due to this pandemic disease that is directly or indirectly related to other industries like Insurance, Banking, Hotels, Aviation, etc.

Several cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in 22 countries outside China. These countries include Thailand, Japan, India, Singapore, South Korea, Australia, Malaysia, the USA, France, Germany, and the United Arab Emirates. So we can say that not only China is suffering in terms of Tourism, even all countries of the world are included and taking precautions. 

Due to the fear of contagion, people are traveling less globally. Which causes a slowdown in the travel industry. And nobody knows how long it goes, so can not calculate the exact impact of this Coronavirus on all industries including tourism business.

What is Coronavirus?

As per the World Health Organization this virus related to Sea-food and Non-veg. This endemic disease Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) is the latest virus whose infection can cause symptoms of cold to breathlessness. The first time this virus is seen in December 2019 in Wuhan, China.

Covid-19

The World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom in Geneva now changed Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) name to ‘Covid-19‘ because this deadly coronavirus is declared as epidemic disease all over the world. Here is full form of “Covid-19” is ‘Co‘ means corona, ‘V’ means virus, and D means disease and originated in 2019 year.

What are the symptoms of this disease?

According to WHO, this virus results, fever, cold, cough, shortness of breath, running nose and sore throat are its symptoms. Till now no vaccine has been made to stop the virus from spreading. This virus spreads from person to person through air or by touching. Therefore, great care is being taken about this.

What are the preventive measures?

Department of Health has issued guidelines, How to prevent coronavirus. According to them,

  1. Avoid Sea-food as possible.
  2. Hands should be washed with soap before meals.
  3. Keep your nose and mouth covered with handkerchief or tissue paper while coughing and peeling.
  4. Maintain a gap from the patient who has fever, cold, cough and shortness of breath symptoms.
  5. Avoid contact with wild animals.

Conclusion

So traveler is not taking the risk, as travel insurance do not cover in epidemics situations for cancellation of their trips.
